Copenhagen Phil

Copenhagen Phil traces its roots back to 1843 when Hans Christian Lumbye was their first music director of the Tivoli Concert Hall Orchestra upon the opening of the Tivoli Garden in Copenhagen Phil. Since then, the orchestra has grown from 22 musicians to 65 musicians, which continues to play concerts for a large domestic and foreign audience in Tivoli each summer.

Until the beginning of the 1960s the orchestra was primarily active during the summer season – as the Tivoli Orchestra - but in 1965 the legal and financial base was established for activities around the year – in the summer as Tivoli Symphony Orchestra (now: Tivoli Copenhagen Phil) and during the winter season as Copenhagen Phil.

By virtue of playing around 100 concerts, opera- and ballet- performances per year, Copenhagen Phil is one of the busiest, as well as the most versatile, orchestras in Denmark.
