After a brutal 24 hours from the last sounding breath to the announcement of the results, the wait for our wonderful woodwind competitors is finally over. The judges take into account not only how each competitor played in the final, but growth over the arc of the whole competition.

The violinists have been both blessed and cursed, in playing two finals, the last completed just a few hours ago, a tour de force of Nielsen’s First Violin Concerto in three very different voices. Sometimes one voice must be lifted up.

Far better is it to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure... than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much, because they live in a gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat. --- Theodore Roosevelt
